Classic HVAC Tips for Pet Owners

We love our furry friends! At this point, we likely have more customers with pets than ones without them. They’re our best friends, companions, and family members. That’s why it’s important that we consider them and their needs when we assess our home comfort.

Don’t worry our tips aren’t very complicated. These tips are easy, cheap, and good enough to make a serious improvement to your home comfort and your air quality.

If you’re concerned about comfort or your air quality in Bellingham, WA, then you’ll definitely want to keep reading to see what we have to offer. And don’t forget to call us for any services or system installations you might need!

Change Out the Air Filter

Every forced air heating and cooling system has an air filter component. No, this component isn’t designed to improve your air quality. Keep reading down below for tips on that.

This air filter is intended to protect the interior components of your HVAC system. This includes things like the coils of your air conditioner or the burners of your gas furnace. Pet hair, dander, and other contaminants can cause damage over time to your heating or cooling system and severely limit its efficiency and lifespan.

So, do yourself a favor and change your air filter every 1-3 months. You can spend more time in between changes if you don’t have many shedding pets, but you’ll want to change it frequently if you’ve got a lot of fur babies.

Examine Your Ductwork

Air ducts are a necessity when dealing with a central heating or cooling system. But dust, debris, and pet hair can get tangled up inside of them and cause them to become inefficient.

It’s a good idea when you call our Air Solutions by Barron Team for maintenance to specify the state of your ducts. We can check them and provide you with a diagnosis if they’re in trouble due to pet related contaminants.

Clean ductwork will also improve your air quality, making your home more breathable as a result.

Invest in an Air Filtration System

While your HVAC system has an air filter built into it, it doesn’t quite fix your air quality like an air filtration system. These units can specifically target contaminants over a certain size, like dust particles, pet dander, pet hair, and even certain mold spores, filtering them out of your air completely.

Air filtration systems are great because they can improve the breathability of your home as well as protect vulnerable guests who might have allergies or be sensitive to respiratory distress.

We can also install an air purifier that can target biological contaminants like viruses and bacteria. It does this using a UV light that irradiates single-celled organisms deep in your air ducts, essentially cleaning your air so you have a lower chance of getting sick from it.
