Solar Tax Credits are Being Extended: Should You Go Solar?

techs-on-roof-installing-solar-panels

There are a number of benefits to utilizing solar power for your electrical needs. Perhaps the most exciting benefit is that solar tax credits have recently been extended! While they were slated to drop from 26% to 22% in 2021, the 26% tax credit has now been extended for another two years.

Remember, of course, that solar panel functionality and installation can only be successful if they’re managed by trained and experienced professionals, such as the Home Performance Experts here at Solar by Barron. Read on as we uncover three of the top reasons more homeowners than ever before are investing in solar energy.

1.     Solar Energy Means Clean Energy

Energy harnessed from the sun is an infinitely renewable resource. Unlike gasoline, it’s not a fuel that can be depleted. Solar energy means clean energy, helping you to reduce your home’s carbon footprint while saving money. And when you have solar panels professionally installed, there are no moving parts to worry about breaking down.

This isn’t to say solar panels require no maintenance, however. Inclement weather, for example, can cause solar panel damage. It’s rare, but stresses the importance of having a trained and experienced solar expert you can count on in a moment’s notice.

2.     Solar Energy is a Practical Investment

Having solar panels installed is one of the best investments you can make for your home. While the initial installation costs can be sizable, the savings you’ll see on your electrical utility bills each month make the investment more than worth it.

Over the years, using solar energy will save you thousands of dollars. Additionally, since solar panels can last for many decades, you’ll likely enjoy these savings throughout your homeownership.

Still not sure? Consider customers we helped recently, Katelin and Jonathan O. They purchased a 1,400 square foot farmhouse in the North County of Bellingham, WA. Built in 1934, the home was solely equipped with electric baseboard heat. Proving to be a very inefficient heat source, their energy usage in the home was at 21,500 kWh per year—unnecessarily high, especially for a home of its size. Monthly electric bills for Katelin and Jonathan were coming in at $180 per month, or $2,100 per year.

After assessing their needs and moving forward with the design, the Solar by Barron team was able to hook them up with a ductless system combined with solar panels. This pairing brought their energy use down by nearly two-thirds! That’s 21,500 kWh usage down to 7,700 kWh per year.

3.     Going Solar Allows You Special State and Local Incentives

Washington state wants you to go solar! In support of the implementation of solar energy, the state provides various rebates and incentives to help homeowners like you to make the investment. And with the 26% tax credit extension, there is no time like now to GO SOLAR!
