What Exactly Is Boiler Retrofitting?

Monday, July 17th, 2023

Boiler Retrofitting can include the removal and replacement of an existing boiler running a heating system to improve reliability, efficiency, and or functionality. One example would be changing a mid-efficiency boiler running in-floor radiant heat to a new stainless steel condensing boiler, this gives the option of targeting the ideal water temperature for the desired load rather than overheating the water and using some form of mixing to achieve the desired temperature.

We can also retrofit components in the system other than the boiler to increase efficiency, serviceability, and overall appearance. These modifications can be small or vast and include automatic air purgers, automatic pressure-reducing fill valves, mixing systems, control systems, and isolation.

Signs It’s Time to Replace Your Boiler

Monday, January 16th, 2023

Boilers are designed to be as reliable as possible. They’re powerful heating systems that are also some of the most long-lasting systems on the market. Seriously, a boiler can last 20+ years of running efficiently without major hiccups, and we see this all the time in homes throughout the area.

However, boilers aren’t designed to last forever and sometimes they’ll give off strange noises, foul odors, and other issues that can be a premonition of a replacement to come.

Your boiler gives off warning signals when it’s nearing the end of its lifecycle, though not all those signals are loud and apparent. Oftentimes, homeowners aren’t aware that their sump pump systems actually require pretty routine inspections. Our Home Performance Experts are here to help with this service, and include it as part of the plumbing plan of our WholeHome™ Membership, which you can read more about below.

It’s also important, however, that you check your sump pump on a seasonal basis as well, plus every time the sump pump gets used. This basic homeowner check should include:

  • Dumping water in the pit to ensure it activates properly.
  • Cleaning any debris out or around the sump pump system.

Read on as we uncover why sump pump inspections are so important, and what common problems you may be able to avoid with routine sump pump maintenance.
